The blank canvas is not what inspires awe, rather it is the beauty of the colors and the manner in which they have been applied on it.... So, here I am "Passing the Paintbrush" let's see what awe we can inspire together!

SO BUSY...LIKE BEES

We have been busy over the last 5 weeks getting to know each other. I have the big undertaking of trying to learn everyone's name! Teachers and students alike, I am trying to learn their names.  I have enjoyed getting to see your students and look forward to having the now familiarity with the students. Having seen all the students in the art room, I now have many names...Mrs. Everett, Mrs. Art Teacher, Mrs .Art, Mrs. Forst, Mrs. Dalton, I have even been lovingly reminded that I am the lady in the art room (name not needed). Any of these options are used in the morning while I great the Tigers as the enter for the day. We have worked on several things.  I have given all students an opportunity to "Show me what they know" from their art room experiences in the past.  In this they are showing me their skill,s their talents, and in some cases what things need to be covered and exercised in the room as review or preview.  I base much of my curriculum on the Gwinnett County Visual Arts AKS. However, outside of the AKS there are skills, techniques, procedures, and a variety of artists, styles of art, and specific art pieces that your students will be exposed to. I do however, often times use information covered in their general classrooms to help express that what we are learning in the art room does relate to other places, not only other classrooms and other school subjects but however our concepts are all around us in the world.  I am presently working to show the students at Harbins the exciting experience of learning about global peace. While we can not create global piece based on our efforts only at Harbins, through the International Day of Peace Organization we are taking the opportunity to act locally regarding a global issue.  We will discuss what we think Peace is, read books from our media center about Peace and we will then come back to see if we agree with our educated guess on what Peace is. We will be visiting the website supporting this global event and we will look at and discuss maps, how satellites help us in getting this information, and how we can help create Peace where we live and within our school. While creating a pinwheel and discussing these things doesn't change the views and/ or the experiences of everyone in the world, we have to start somewhere.  So, we will be putting together a display in the foyer of our school that will help to show all visitors the Harbins our hope to support and promote the efforts of making World Peace a reality through our presentation of Pinwheels. Please, come by and visit. We have also started creating artworks based on Veteran's day themed ideas and stretched our minds to become more independent artists through sketching and Planning with the End in Mind. We look forward to seeing you come by and visit our hallways soon.
