The blank canvas is not what inspires awe, rather it is the beauty of the colors and the manner in which they have been applied on it.... So, here I am "Passing the Paintbrush" let's see what awe we can inspire together!

Literally, I can hear it already... to answer... No we are not at the end of the school year yet!  I have been slacking on keeping up with the Blog and for that I must apologize, however I have not been slacking in many other places it feels. Please read on to hear whats going on.

Gettin' Down In Green-
March 17th we had an amazing dance here at school, hosted by our Student Council.  I was proud to say as a Council sponsor that there were few not Getting Jiggy at our Gettin' Down in Green Celebration. Our kids cut loose to the wonderful and amazing tunes of ClaySticky our DJ and didn't lose their cool because of the delicious dinner and snacks provided by Chick-Fil-A. It was a blast and thanks to all who showed up to support us in our effort to let it all go in Green.

 Collins Hill Public Library-
So, exciting and important things going on here at "The Rock." The Collins Hill Public Library and I have collaborated for the month of April. Together we are looking to make sure students understand the importance of art and reading! By teaming together we are hoping to grow new supporters for not only the public library services our county provides but also to grow an awareness of how important the arts are for those growing minds and developing readers and writers of tomorrow. After all, they need vivid imaginations and clear understanding once those books they read no longer have pictures! Who’s to say we might not have a future writer or illustrator right here within our midst! 50 of the students from our school have artwork
being featured on the display at the Collins Hill Public Library. Please, take the time to support not only your student but all the students featured.  This is also an opportunity for our Visual Arts program at “The Rock” to get noticed as well. By putting our work “out there” we remind all who see it, that every student can excel and for some it isn’t in the general classroom, but in the world of art and all that it has to offer.  Please, go by any time during library hours during the month of April to help us celebrate our artistic successes here at “The Rock”!  Below find the address and hours of operation for your local Collins Hill Public library.

Artworks! Gwinnett-
Also, Exciting and fun to be shared with the readers...

A fabulous opportunity for some our students here at Rock Springs has come along. I was contacted and asked for nominations of students who would be worthy to be recognized for their Exceptional Arts Achievement in class.  I have nominated four students for this prestigious award that is now being offered through the Gwinnett Chamber of Commerce. As a result, the nominees and their two guests are invited to attend a ceremony in their honor, in which a winner will be selected on Sunday, April 29, 2012 @ the Gwinnett Chamber of Commerce.  I am happy to announce that those students are...
Kaile Pettus
Maria Lehmberg
Lucas Leon
Christina Lee

These students are working hard and making sure that they are showing themselves and those around them what exactly it looks like to reach for the stars and with these students I am sure that they will get there if they keep it up.  Congratulations guys!  I am so proud of you!

Science Day-
With all that said we have also been working very hard in preparation for the May 11th Science day.  Our art room was swimming with fish this week as each of our students were asked to design a fish all their own for the building of our "School of Fish." I look forward to seeing almost nine hundred fish being hung in the halls here at The Rock for such a fabulous and exciting celebration of Science. Please, make sure you come by on the 11th of May and see it for yourself.  We are also working on stained glass Coral Reefs, A life size Giant Pacific Octopus, and numerous other projects that will leave us with nothing short of a fantastic science day display for learning!

Check back in for more pics and things to come!
